Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Capital Goods and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.18%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.12%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which rose 2.79% or 24.25 points to trade at 897.95 at the close. Meanwhile, Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) added 2.27% or 6.40 points to end at 289.05 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) was up 2.55% or 52.90 points to 2118.65 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL), which fell 2.78% or 8.75 points to trade at 306.85 at the close. Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) declined 1.93% or 5.70 points to end at 288.90 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) was down 1.98% or 4.80 points to 238.10.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 3.08% to 895.60, Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which was up 2.34% to settle at 288.75 and Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which gained 1.64% to close at 344.00.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which was down 2.00% to 166.90 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which lost 1.92% to settle at 288.95 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 1.86% to 285.25 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 911 to 696 and 35 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1429 fell and 1176 advanced, while 155 ended unchanged.

Shares in Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) fell to 3-years lows; falling 2.00% or 3.40 to 166.90. Shares in Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) fell to 52-week lows; falling 1.92% or 5.65 to 288.95.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.60% to 13.4100.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.12% or 1.60 to $1297.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.06% or 0.04 to hit $66.77 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.19% or 0.14 to trade at $75.63 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.51% to 67.490, while EUR/INR rose 0.15% to 78.4000.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.45% at 94.38.
