Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Banking, Auto and Green Energy sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.18%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.18%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 1.53% or 3.90 points to trade at 258.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) added 1.46% or 2.70 points to end at 188.00 and Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) was up 0.75% or 2.20 points to 296.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which fell 2.03% or 624.35 points to trade at 30174.60 at the close. Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) declined 1.65% or 39.50 points to end at 2356.00 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) was down 1.49% or 8.00 points to 528.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which rose 1.54% to 296.65, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was up 1.46% to settle at 187.90 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which gained 1.18% to close at 3740.60.
The worst performers were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 1.80% to 2356.45 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 1.45% to settle at 528.60 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 1.09% to 702.55 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 966 to 599 and 43 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1545 rose and 1095 declined, while 176 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.02% to 12.1850.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.33% or 4.20 to $1268.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.36% or 0.21 to hit $57.77 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.06% or 0.04 to trade at $63.84 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.02% to 64.065, while EUR/INR rose 0.11% to 75.9280.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 93.01.
