Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Real Estate, Banking and Capital Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.17% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.21%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which rose 2.70% or 8.65 points to trade at 328.70 at the close. Meanwhile, Ambuja Cements Ltd. (NS:ABUJ) added 3.16% or 8.15 points to end at 263.70 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) was up 1.83% or 5.60 points to 310.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which fell 2.16% or 15.65 points to trade at 709.00 at the close. AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) declined 1.82% or 9.85 points to end at 531.70 and Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (NS:ARBN) was down 1.54% or 8.95 points to 574.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which rose 1.84% to 310.25, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was up 1.11% to settle at 187.00 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which gained 0.85% to close at 417.65.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 2.48% to 709.05 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 1.44% to settle at 531.70 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was down 1.09% to 1045.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 878 to 707 and 40 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1451 fell and 1223 advanced, while 146 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.20% to 16.8675.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.22% or 16.50 to $1339.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.41% or 0.25 to hit $61.80 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.19% or 0.78 to trade at $64.89 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.45% to 64.804, while EUR/INR rose 0.28% to 79.9419.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.56% at 89.58.
