Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Banking and IT sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.06%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.08%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH), which rose 3.09% or 132.45 points to trade at 4,415.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) added 2.82% or 20.85 points to end at 761.25 and NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) was up 2.43% or 4.00 points to 168.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS), which fell 2.34% or 407.15 points to trade at 16,968.95 at the close. Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN) declined 2.29% or 19.20 points to end at 818.25 and Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) was down 1.47% or 53.80 points to 3,608.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 2.79% to 761.30, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 2.56% to settle at 168.40 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which gained 1.54% to close at 108.55.
The worst performers were Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 2.08% to 17,014.00 in late trade, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which lost 1.14% to settle at 1,915.95 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 1.08% to 1,304.95 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 960 to 886 and 44 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1708 rose and 1605 declined, while 130 ended unchanged.
Shares in NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 2.43% or 4.00 to 168.50. Shares in NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) rose to 5-year highs; up 2.56% or 4.20 to 168.40.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.70% to 19.52.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.02% or 0.30 to $1,722.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.53% or 0.46 to hit $86.41 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 3.10% or 2.97 to trade at $92.77 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.38% to 79.75, while EUR/INR rose 0.04% to 79.24.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 109.79.
