Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.01%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.10%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD), which rose 6.26% or 13.30 points to trade at 225.75 at the close. Meanwhile, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) added 4.98% or 4.90 points to end at 103.35 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) was up 3.79% or 25.50 points to 697.65 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK), which fell 2.34% or 15.80 points to trade at 658.15 at the close. AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) declined 2.20% or 17.45 points to end at 776.55 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) was down 1.63% or 45.05 points to 2725.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which rose 6.24% to 225.45, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was up 5.18% to settle at 103.50 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which gained 2.89% to close at 98.00.
The worst performers were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 2.37% to 775.65 in late trade, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which lost 2.31% to settle at 658.45 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 1.64% to 17198.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 938 to 683 and 78 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1563 fell and 1312 advanced, while 149 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.42% to 21.7800.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.11% or 2.05 to $1825.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.55% or 0.33 to hit $59.80 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.25% or 0.16 to trade at $63.14 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.09% to 72.680, while EUR/INR rose 0.39% to 88.4155.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.38% at 90.123.
