Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Consumer Durables, Banking and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty rose 0.43%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.67%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Cairn India Limited (NSE:CAIL), which rose 4.48% or 6.35 points to trade at 148.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Vedanta Ltd (NSE:VDAN) added 2.92% or 2.70 points to end at 95.05 and Lupin Ltd (NSE:LUPN) was up 2.70% or 50.45 points to 1922.05 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were NMDC Ltd (NSE:NMDC), which fell 4.01% or 4.10 points to trade at 98.25 at the close. POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (NSE:PGRD) declined 2.44% or 3.20 points to end at 127.80 and Tata Motors Ltd . (NSE:TAMO) was down 1.74% or 5.50 points to 310.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which rose 2.71% to 94.85, HDFC Bank Ltd. (BO:HDBK) which was up 2.17% to settle at 1049.95 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 2.10% to close at 1211.75.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which was down 1.73% to 310.20 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 1.49% to settle at 338.10 and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which was down 1.24% to 199.15 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 817 to 598 and 10 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 447 rose and 307 declined, while 1 ended unchanged.
Shares in Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) fell to 52-week lows; down 1.49% or 5.10 to 338.10.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 1.68% to 20.6875.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.03% or 0.30 to $1124.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.31% or 0.14 to hit $46.51 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.04% or 0.02 to trade at $49.10 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.25% to 66.076, while EUR/INR rose 0.31% to 73.5870.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.02% at 96.48.
