Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the IT, Oil & Gas and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty rose 0.12%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.12%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were NTPC Limited (NS:NTPC), which rose 2.26% or 3.00 points to trade at 135.70 at the close. Meanwhile, POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (NS:PGRD) added 2.09% or 2.70 points to end at 131.65 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) was up 1.99% or 24.10 points to 1232.95 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which fell 1.92% or 15.90 points to trade at 814.20 at the close. Tata Motors Ltd . (NS:TAMO) declined 1.52% or 5.90 points to end at 382.05 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (NS:TISC) was down 1.34% or 3.20 points to 235.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which rose 2.15% to 135.65, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was up 1.96% to settle at 1232.80 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which gained 1.64% to close at 251.25.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which was down 1.33% to 382.05 in late trade, Larsen & Toubro Limited (BO:LART) which lost 1.17% to settle at 1372.20 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was down 1.09% to 236.05 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 808 to 622 and 10 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 419 rose and 358 declined, while 6 ended unchanged.
Shares in Larsen & Toubro Limited (BO:LART) fell to 52-week lows; falling 1.17% or 16.20 to 1372.20.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 0.40% to 19.5550.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.44% or 5.00 to $1130.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.98% or 0.45 to hit $46.59 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.84% or 0.41 to trade at $49.20 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.26% to 65.740, while EUR/INR fell 0.20% to 72.1100.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.19% at 97.19.
