Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the IT, Technology and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 2.51%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 2.67%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY), which rose 13.97% or 73.55 points to trade at 600.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) added 13.81% or 28.70 points to end at 236.50 and Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) was up 11.79% or 252.15 points to 2390.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which fell 11.45% or 4.55 points to trade at 35.20 at the close. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) declined 7.98% or 23.40 points to end at 270.00 and Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) was down 7.67% or 33.25 points to 400.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which rose 12.69% to 593.55, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was up 9.78% to settle at 2485.80 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which gained 8.34% to close at 2028.75.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 8.32% to 269.25 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 7.19% to settle at 312.35 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 3.21% to 149.45 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 855 to 644 and 91 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1273 fell and 885 advanced, while 137 ended unchanged.
Shares in Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) fell to 5-year lows; down 7.98% or 23.40 to 270.00. Shares in Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) fell to 5-year lows; falling 7.67% or 33.25 to 400.00. Shares in Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) fell to 5-year lows; losing 8.32% or 24.45 to 269.25. Shares in IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) fell to 5-year lows; losing 7.19% or 24.20 to 312.35.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 16.15% to 83.6075 a new 5-year high.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 5.36% or 83.95 to $1651.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 6.64% or 1.55 to hit $24.91 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 4.85% or 1.31 to trade at $28.34 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.17% to 76.192, while EUR/INR rose 1.07% to 82.6955.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.38% at 101.815.
