Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the IT, Technology and Metals sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 2.33%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 2.30%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL), which rose 7.27% or 42.55 points to trade at 627.95 at the close. Meanwhile, JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) added 4.98% or 22.15 points to end at 467.35 and Shree Cements Ltd. (NS:SHCM) was up 4.92% or 1383.80 points to 29500.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK), which fell 0.41% or 2.85 points to trade at 695.35 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) declined 0.32% or 1.05 points to end at 326.10 and SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) was down 0.21% or 1.80 points to 872.15.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which rose 4.11% to 1553.55, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was up 3.91% to settle at 996.35 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 3.69% to close at 1385.55.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 0.74% to 795.00 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 0.41% to settle at 695.10 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 0.17% to 521.40 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 890 to 793 and 78 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1479 rose and 1372 declined, while 199 ended unchanged.
Shares in JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) rose to all time highs; gaining 4.98% or 22.15 to 467.35. Shares in Shree Cements Ltd. (NS:SHCM) rose to all time highs; gaining 4.92% or 1383.80 to 29500.00.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.80% to 20.4850.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.11% or 19.10 to $1695.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.33% or 0.82 to hit $60.74 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 1.06% or 0.69 to trade at $64.23 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.91% to 73.410, while EUR/INR rose 0.70% to 86.1615.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 93.172.
