Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Banking and Carbon sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 2.19%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 2.28%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC), which rose 5.66% or 41.65 points to trade at 777.15 at the close. Meanwhile, Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) added 4.98% or 492.30 points to end at 10369.30 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) was up 4.56% or 96.10 points to 2202.10 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM), which fell 1.50% or 52.05 points to trade at 3424.35 at the close. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) declined 1.24% or 89.40 points to end at 7124.70 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) was down 1.09% or 42.95 points to 3901.10.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which rose 4.87% to 10356.65, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was up 4.52% to settle at 2201.35 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which gained 4.47% to close at 5544.95.

The worst performers were Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which was down 1.35% to 3895.60 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 1.22% to settle at 7126.95 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 0.93% to 851.90 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1056 to 589 and 73 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1764 rose and 1114 declined, while 172 ended unchanged.

Shares in Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) rose to 5-year highs; rising 5.66% or 41.65 to 777.15.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 6.42% to 22.0900.

Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.65% or 11.20 to $1722.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.69% or 1.01 to hit $60.76 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.75% or 1.10 to trade at $63.80 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.52% to 72.870, while EUR/INR fell 0.54% to 88.0775.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 90.802.
