India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 1.57%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Public Sector Undertakings, Banking and Green Energy sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 1.57%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 1.53%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which rose 16.94% or 272.25 points to trade at 1,879.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) added 9.91% or 61.75 points to end at 684.65 and State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) was up 5.14% or 27.45 points to 561.20 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which fell 2.22% or 24.65 points to trade at 1,085.15 at the close. UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) declined 1.00% or 73.25 points to end at 7,215.95 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was down 0.88% or 7.80 points to 878.65.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which rose 5.11% to 561.10, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 3.30% to settle at 764.60 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which gained 2.46% to close at 2,385.05.

The worst performers were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 2.19% to 1,085.45 in late trade, UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which lost 1.04% to settle at 7,213.85 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 0.17% to 18,458.15 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1306 to 616 and 56 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2088 rose and 1305 declined, while 119 ended unchanged.

Shares in Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) fell to 52-week lows; losing 0.88% or 7.80 to 878.65.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 6.09% to 12.18 a new 52-week low.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.72% or 13.25 to $1,853.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.14% or 0.11 to hit $78.05 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.22% or 0.19 to trade at $84.56 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.49% to 81.95, while EUR/INR fell 0.25% to 87.04.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.33% at 104.65.
