Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Real Estate and Metals sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 1.53%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 1.50%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL), which rose 5.21% or 104.05 points to trade at 2,101.95 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) added 4.25% or 53.35 points to end at 1,308.70 and Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) was up 4.12% or 61.55 points to 1,554.90 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which fell 4.13% or 7.70 points to trade at 178.95 at the close. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) declined 1.29% or 19.40 points to end at 1,485.35 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) was down 0.97% or 37.95 points to 3,892.50.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which rose 5.17% to 2,101.00, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 4.27% to settle at 1,308.40 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which gained 3.70% to close at 468.60.

The worst performers were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 1.28% to 1,485.00 in late trade, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which lost 0.78% to settle at 3,894.15 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 0.36% to 3,620.10 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1317 to 499 and 24 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2344 rose and 915 declined, while 97 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 6.86% to 25.58.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.69% or 13.70 to $2,001.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 4.13% or 4.49 to hit $113.19 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 4.82% or 5.36 to trade at $116.50 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.37% to 76.46, while EUR/INR fell 0.24% to 84.36.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.31% at 98.26.
