Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Auto, IT and Metals sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 1.52% to hit a new 3-months high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.47%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC), which rose 7.02% or 271.00 points to trade at 4131.10 at the close. Meanwhile, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) added 4.70% or 62.15 points to end at 1384.75 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) was up 4.69% or 103.40 points to 2310.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK), which fell 1.77% or 6.35 points to trade at 352.15 at the close. Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) declined 1.62% or 3.15 points to end at 191.10 and Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST) was down 1.42% or 247.20 points to 17103.05.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which rose 7.17% to 4135.70, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was up 4.79% to settle at 1385.75 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which gained 4.69% to close at 2309.20.
The worst performers were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 1.84% to 351.90 in late trade, Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which lost 1.29% to settle at 17120.00 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 1.21% to 1756.25 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 820 to 770 and 81 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1249 rose and 1246 declined, while 138 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.50% to 23.6425 a new 3-months low.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.38% or 7.40 to $1923.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.41% or 0.17 to hit $41.43 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $43.91 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.05% to 74.829, while EUR/INR fell 0.11% to 87.7895.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 93.705.
