Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Metals, Capital Goods and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 1.37%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.46%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC), which rose 7.54% or 81.80 points to trade at 1167.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) added 6.86% or 57.25 points to end at 891.75 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was up 6.07% or 52.90 points to 925.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which fell 4.46% or 17.70 points to trade at 379.35 at the close. Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) declined 2.76% or 3.45 points to end at 121.75 and Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) was down 2.60% or 13.45 points to 504.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 7.57% to 1167.65, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 6.94% to settle at 892.05 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which gained 5.76% to close at 922.05.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 1.67% to 870.20 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which lost 1.18% to settle at 212.85 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 1.13% to 532.25 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 996 to 805 and 30 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1675 rose and 1568 declined, while 100 ended unchanged.
Shares in Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 6.86% or 57.25 to 891.75. Shares in Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 6.94% or 57.90 to 892.05.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 9.00% to 19.9775.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.60% or 10.70 to $1805.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.42% or 0.37 to hit $87.78 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.46% or 0.41 to trade at $88.85 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.42% to 74.849, while EUR/INR rose 0.65% to 84.2650.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 96.365.
