Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Metals and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 1.35%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 1.11%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which rose 7.35% or 22.50 points to trade at 328.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) added 6.49% or 32.40 points to end at 532.00 and Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL) was up 3.72% or 114.30 points to 3,187.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK), which fell 2.45% or 33.85 points to trade at 1,347.15 at the close. Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) declined 0.71% or 32.90 points to end at 4,621.00 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) was down 0.53% or 7.85 points to 1,475.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which rose 3.20% to 351.80, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 2.66% to settle at 154.25 and JSW Steel Ltd (BO:JSTL) which gained 2.61% to close at 907.00.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 2.33% to 1,347.75 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 0.40% to settle at 1,437.80 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 0.33% to 2,741.30 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 2077 to 363 and 25 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2842 rose and 914 declined, while 97 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 14.11% to 16.10.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.18% or 4.30 to $2,435.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.39% or 1.02 to hit $74.22 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.44% or 1.10 to trade at $77.58 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.01% to 83.96, while EUR/INR fell 0.08% to 91.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 102.99.
