Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Oil & Gas and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 1.24%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 1.14%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF), which rose 6.14% or 37.70 points to trade at 645.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) added 4.64% or 7.10 points to end at 160.25 and Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) was up 4.43% or 15.05 points to 354.75 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM), which fell 0.30% or 7.85 points to trade at 2623.75 at the close. Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) added 0.24% or 6.65 points to end at 2774.70 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) was down 0.35% or 8.90 points to 2525.15.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which rose 4.67% to 160.15, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 4.13% to settle at 490.60 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which gained 3.63% to close at 144.05.
The worst performers were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which was down 0.56% to 2628.45 in late trade, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 0.30% to settle at 1733.60 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which was down 0.16% to 2778.20 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 992 to 587 and 62 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1442 rose and 1073 declined, while 142 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 7.65% to 17.0550.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.22% or 2.95 to $1347.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.23% or 0.13 to hit $56.32 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.50% or 0.33 to trade at $66.12 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.28% to 71.095, while EUR/INR fell 0.21% to 80.6715.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 96.370.
