Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Real Estate, Banking and Consumer Durables sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 1.23% to hit a new 3-months high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.26%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS), which rose 6.50% or 40.65 points to trade at 666.00 at the close. Meanwhile, UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) added 3.33% or 134.40 points to end at 4170.00 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) was up 3.12% or 8.40 points to 278.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which fell 1.25% or 5.10 points to trade at 402.80 at the close. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) declined 0.91% or 6.55 points to end at 714.50 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was down 0.80% or 6.15 points to 765.50.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which rose 3.34% to 4170.95, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was up 2.85% to settle at 1366.65 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 2.57% to close at 369.50.
The worst performers were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 1.03% to 713.70 in late trade, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which lost 0.53% to settle at 715.20 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which was down 0.48% to 3099.45 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1131 to 475 and 89 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1756 rose and 860 declined, while 126 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.12% to 20.4300 a new 3-months low.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.87% or 17.30 to $2016.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.37% or 0.16 to hit $42.73 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.22% or 0.10 to trade at $45.27 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.13% to 74.644, while EUR/INR rose 0.16% to 88.8520.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.38% at 92.498.
