Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Consumer Durables, Power and Capital Goods sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 1.22%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 1.08%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which rose 8.57% or 39.10 points to trade at 492.55 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) added 6.94% or 33.55 points to end at 514.70 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) was up 5.30% or 25.05 points to 497.30 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which fell 0.87% or 2.30 points to trade at 262.80 at the close. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) declined 0.61% or 16.05 points to end at 2617.25 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was down 0.50% or 3.00 points to 593.45.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which rose 7.99% to 492.80, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 6.08% to settle at 513.35 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which gained 3.29% to close at 1140.50.
The worst performers were Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which was down 0.64% to 263.30 in late trade, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which lost 0.52% to settle at 2617.65 and Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which was down 0.50% to 592.50 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1165 to 402 and 36 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1842 rose and 788 declined, while 144 ended unchanged.
Shares in GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) rose to all time highs; up 8.57% or 39.10 to 492.55. Shares in Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) rose to 3-years highs; rising 7.99% or 36.45 to 492.80.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.40% to 14.2725.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.72% or 9.10 to $1257.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.50% or 0.28 to hit $56.24 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.72% or 0.44 to trade at $61.66 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.06% to 64.565, while EUR/INR fell 0.02% to 76.0988.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 93.67.
