Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Metals, Banking and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 1.21% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 1.27%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA), which rose 4.16% or 108.20 points to trade at 2724.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) added 4.20% or 48.75 points to end at 1212.95 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) was up 4.07% or 8.80 points to 224.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT), which fell 2.50% or 26.10 points to trade at 1013.45 at the close. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) declined 2.22% or 4.10 points to end at 180.50 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was down 1.26% or 1.80 points to 140.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which rose 4.68% to 2725.05, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was up 4.24% to settle at 1210.15 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 3.32% to close at 773.20.
The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 1.55% to 181.20 in late trade, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which lost 1.33% to settle at 140.75 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 1.05% to 142.00 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 804 to 788 and 69 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1263 rose and 1261 declined, while 134 ended unchanged.
Shares in Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) fell to 52-week lows; down 1.26% or 1.80 to 140.60. Shares in Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) fell to 52-week lows; falling 1.33% or 1.90 to 140.75. Shares in NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) fell to 52-week lows; losing 1.05% or 1.50 to 142.00.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.11% to 18.6975.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.16% or 2.00 to $1231.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.78% or 0.39 to hit $49.90 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.08% or 0.64 to trade at $58.45 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.80% to 69.835, while EUR/INR fell 1.22% to 79.3010.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 96.855.
