Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Power, Public Sector Undertakings and Banking sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 1.17% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 1.16%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 3.65% or 8.10 points to trade at 230.25 at the close. Meanwhile, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) added 3.35% or 6.40 points to end at 197.80 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) was up 2.92% or 9.65 points to 339.90 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which fell 1.32% or 8.30 points to trade at 621.80 at the close. Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) declined 0.29% or 20.20 points to end at 7030.15 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) was down 0.10% or 2.45 points to 2443.10.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 3.93% to 383.00, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 3.64% to settle at 197.80 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 2.97% to close at 339.90.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 1.25% to 621.80 in late trade, Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which gained 0.35% to settle at 3223.85 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was up 0.43% to 1927.00 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 845 to 770 and 54 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1386 rose and 1247 declined, while 185 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.37% to 12.2375.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.31% or 3.80 to $1209.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.41% or 0.28 to hit $68.44 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.33% or 0.25 to trade at $75.88 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.52% to 70.135, while EUR/INR rose 0.06% to 81.3715.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 95.16.
