Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Metals, Capital Goods and Consumer Durables sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 1.16%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 1.15%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 5.14% or 17.90 points to trade at 366.25 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) added 3.93% or 37.00 points to end at 977.75 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) was up 3.60% or 48.10 points to 1384.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL), which fell 3.65% or 25.70 points to trade at 678.75 at the close. SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) declined 1.46% or 13.75 points to end at 928.75 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) was down 1.06% or 70.15 points to 6568.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which rose 3.33% to 1380.35, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was up 3.02% to settle at 4873.45 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which gained 2.66% to close at 1988.90.
The worst performers were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 1.24% to 6558.20 in late trade, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which lost 0.54% to settle at 102.00 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was down 0.53% to 1750.15 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1183 to 464 and 73 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1870 rose and 966 declined, while 155 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.93% or 37.00 to 977.75.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.76% to 23.0825.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.03% or 0.45 to $1779.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.78% or 0.48 to hit $62.39 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.78% or 0.51 to trade at $65.54 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.13% to 74.635, while EUR/INR fell 0.15% to 90.1290.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 90.888.
