Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Auto, Consumer Durables and Metals sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 1.14%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 1.14%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which rose 5.41% or 8.65 points to trade at 168.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) added 4.07% or 350.00 points to end at 8949.45 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) was up 2.94% or 15.50 points to 542.30 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which fell 1.50% or 2.50 points to trade at 164.45 at the close. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) declined 0.86% or 7.65 points to end at 886.45 and SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) was down 0.48% or 5.45 points to 1125.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which rose 4.14% to 8951.55, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was up 3.02% to settle at 965.55 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which gained 2.50% to close at 1497.70.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 0.72% to 887.40 in late trade, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which lost 0.50% to settle at 230.05 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 0.38% to 209.30 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 946 to 850 and 38 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1670 rose and 1566 declined, while 105 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.74% to 18.5550.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.00% or 0.05 to $1827.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.43% or 0.38 to hit $88.98 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.34% or 0.31 to trade at $90.47 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.07% to 74.771, while EUR/INR rose 0.30% to 85.5070.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 95.433.
