Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Banking, IT and Carbon sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.95%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 1.16%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL), which rose 5.14% or 47.45 points to trade at 971.30 at the close. Meanwhile, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) added 3.29% or 63.10 points to end at 1978.95 and HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) was up 2.83% or 43.00 points to 1562.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which fell 4.46% or 20.80 points to trade at 445.90 at the close. Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) declined 4.14% or 30.50 points to end at 706.75 and GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) was down 3.31% or 5.10 points to 149.05.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which rose 3.17% to 1975.90, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was up 3.00% to settle at 1565.00 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which gained 2.73% to close at 995.00.
The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 2.11% to 215.65 in late trade, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which lost 1.23% to settle at 116.85 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 1.18% to 109.25 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1072 to 595 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1671 fell and 1216 advanced, while 185 ended unchanged.
Shares in SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) rose to 52-week highs; up 5.14% or 47.45 to 971.30.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 8.83% to 22.4950.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.23% or 20.60 to $1698.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.18% or 0.77 to hit $65.82 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.30% or 0.89 to trade at $69.13 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.54% to 72.954, while EUR/INR fell 0.06% to 86.8190.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.31% at 92.047.
