Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Metals, Oil & Gas and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.92%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.84%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which rose 4.32% or 14.25 points to trade at 343.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) added 3.77% or 32.20 points to end at 885.60 and AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) was up 3.04% or 15.80 points to 536.10 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN), which fell 2.61% or 20.75 points to trade at 773.90 at the close. Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) declined 1.88% or 39.60 points to end at 2069.50 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) was down 1.52% or 52.75 points to 3420.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 3.68% to 885.60, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 2.82% to settle at 534.95 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which gained 2.52% to close at 595.95.
The worst performers were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 1.75% to 2068.85 in late trade, Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which lost 1.64% to settle at 267.30 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 1.53% to 3427.70 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 862 to 751 and 46 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1370 rose and 1230 declined, while 149 ended unchanged.
Shares in Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.77% or 32.20 to 885.60. Shares in Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) rose to all time highs; up 3.68% or 31.40 to 885.60.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.85% to 13.7600.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.04% or 0.50 to $1314.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.96% or 0.67 to hit $70.39 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.85% or 0.64 to trade at $75.51 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.51% to 67.162, while EUR/INR rose 0.19% to 80.0854.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 92.66.
