India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.91%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Capital Goods, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and IT sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.91%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.99%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART), which rose 4.04% or 87.60 points to trade at 2,257.75 at the close. Meanwhile, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) added 2.97% or 78.05 points to end at 2,707.00 and HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) was up 2.68% or 43.20 points to 1,653.75 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which fell 2.35% or 70.55 points to trade at 2,933.75 at the close. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) declined 1.35% or 15.85 points to end at 1,154.05 and Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL) was down 1.13% or 19.45 points to 1,698.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which rose 3.96% to 2,257.00, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was up 2.97% to settle at 2,705.05 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which gained 2.72% to close at 1,654.10.

The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 1.26% to 1,065.55 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 1.24% to settle at 1,155.65 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 1.01% to 175.90 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1466 to 496 and 25 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2494 rose and 916 declined, while 110 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.37% to 12.41.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.04% or 0.75 to $2,038.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.27% or 0.22 to hit $80.49 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.29% or 0.25 to trade at $84.69 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.08% to 82.04, while EUR/INR fell 0.13% to 89.79.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 101.40.
