India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.89%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Technology, IT and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.89%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.99%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL), which rose 3.79% or 27.80 points to trade at 761.60 at the close. Meanwhile, ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) added 3.27% or 12.25 points to end at 386.45 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) was up 2.36% or 54.75 points to 2,378.10 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which fell 2.37% or 76.95 points to trade at 3,175.70 at the close. Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH) declined 2.06% or 89.80 points to end at 4,268.85 and SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) was down 1.48% or 17.40 points to 1,161.70.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 3.31% to 386.50, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was up 2.35% to settle at 2,377.40 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which gained 1.84% to close at 6,458.80.

The worst performers were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 1.10% to 166.00 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 0.88% to settle at 1,005.95 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which was down 0.80% to 7,122.00 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1320 to 606 and 43 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2158 fell and 1221 advanced, while 110 ended unchanged.

Shares in ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) rose to all time highs; rising 3.27% or 12.25 to 386.45. Shares in ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.31% or 12.40 to 386.50.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.66% to 13.45.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.35% or 6.60 to $1,870.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.42% or 1.14 to hit $79.00 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.03% or 0.89 to trade at $85.72 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.23% to 82.78, while EUR/INR rose 0.53% to 89.02.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.30% at 102.93.
