Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Power, Real Estate and Metals sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.87% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.88%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which rose 4.65% or 39.15 points to trade at 880.55 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) added 3.80% or 26.75 points to end at 730.20 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) was up 2.67% or 65.55 points to 2521.10 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN), which fell 1.52% or 40.40 points to trade at 2612.95 at the close. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) declined 1.43% or 56.00 points to end at 3859.90 and Shree Cements Ltd. (NS:SHCM) was down 1.19% or 323.05 points to 26715.50.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 4.68% to 880.75, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 3.76% to settle at 730.05 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which gained 2.68% to close at 2520.60.

The worst performers were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 1.50% to 3857.25 in late trade, Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which lost 1.46% to settle at 2612.50 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was down 0.58% to 1556.55 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 934 to 860 and 27 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1748 rose and 1585 declined, while 78 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.24% to 17.1825.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.08% or 1.40 to $1817.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.38% or 0.31 to hit $81.53 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.19% or 0.16 to trade at $83.88 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.23% to 73.937, while EUR/INR rose 0.14% to 83.9805.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 95.645.
