Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Public Sector Undertakings, Banking and Capital Goods sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.86% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.33%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were State Bank Of India (NS:SBI), which rose 27.69% or 70.45 points to trade at 324.90 at the close. Meanwhile, ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) added 14.69% or 39.15 points to end at 305.70 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) was up 5.52% or 233.15 points to 4460.25 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which fell 5.96% or 20.70 points to trade at 326.90 at the close. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) declined 5.16% or 94.15 points to end at 1726.35 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) was down 5.18% or 55.15 points to 1010.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which rose 27.58% to 324.70, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was up 14.69% to settle at 305.60 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which gained 5.65% to close at 1204.45.
The worst performers were HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was down 3.79% to 1794.50 in late trade, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which lost 2.60% to settle at 1677.90 and Lupin Ltd (BO:LUPN) which was down 2.22% to 1003.75 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 923 to 655 and 14 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1521 fell and 1132 advanced, while 136 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.47% to 11.7600.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.32% or 4.15 to $1274.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.36% or 0.19 to hit $52.28 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $58.34 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.38% to 64.935, while EUR/INR rose 0.06% to 76.5968.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 93.71.
