Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Public Sector Undertakings and IT sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.85%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.76%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which rose 14.70% or 200.45 points to trade at 1,564.30 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) added 3.47% or 13.85 points to end at 413.05 and UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) was up 2.75% or 19.10 points to 713.30 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT), which fell 1.84% or 81.95 points to trade at 4,379.80 at the close. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) declined 1.51% or 3.35 points to end at 218.90 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was down 0.75% or 6.80 points to 899.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which rose 2.69% to 536.80, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 2.54% to settle at 865.25 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which gained 2.30% to close at 1,127.00.
The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 1.53% to 218.85 in late trade, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which lost 0.22% to settle at 1,597.75 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was up 0.11% to 855.60 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1459 to 446 and 64 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2347 rose and 1031 declined, while 126 ended unchanged.
Shares in Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) fell to 52-week lows; losing 0.75% or 6.80 to 899.60.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 7.31% to 12.99.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.14% or 2.55 to $1,839.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.90% or 0.69 to hit $76.36 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.73% or 0.61 to trade at $82.84 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.14% to 82.53, while EUR/INR rose 0.59% to 87.91.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.41% at 104.39.
