Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Real Estate, Consumer Durables and Metals sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.85% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.87%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC), which rose 3.16% or 74.30 points to trade at 2424.65 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) added 2.82% or 6.90 points to end at 251.45 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was up 2.44% or 2.45 points to 102.90 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK), which fell 1.08% or 5.60 points to trade at 512.45 at the close. NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) declined 0.90% or 0.95 points to end at 104.90 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) was down 0.85% or 43.85 points to 5113.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which rose 2.69% to 103.10, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was up 2.66% to settle at 2413.50 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which gained 2.35% to close at 516.10.
The worst performers were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 1.00% to 512.70 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 0.94% to settle at 917.95 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 0.90% to 104.85 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1013 to 650 and 61 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1774 rose and 1129 declined, while 162 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.75% to 19.2000.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.64% or 11.90 to $1867.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.40% or 0.19 to hit $47.81 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.43% or 0.22 to trade at $50.98 a barrel.
USD/INR was unchanged 0.00% to 73.556, while EUR/INR rose 0.44% to 89.7680.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.34% at 90.100.
