Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Technology and Healthcare sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.82% to hit a new 6-months high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.76%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR), which rose 7.34% or 24.60 points to trade at 359.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) added 4.98% or 38.50 points to end at 812.10 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) was up 3.02% or 82.50 points to 2818.45 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which fell 3.11% or 2.70 points to trade at 84.00 at the close. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) declined 2.77% or 1.95 points to end at 68.55 and ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) was down 1.42% or 2.40 points to 167.10.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which rose 3.24% to 4346.95, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 3.19% to settle at 2824.80 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which gained 2.65% to close at 849.70.
The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 2.84% to 68.50 in late trade, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which lost 1.42% to settle at 167.10 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 0.82% to 880.45 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 918 to 695 and 85 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1405 fell and 1192 advanced, while 152 ended unchanged.
Shares in Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 7.34% or 24.60 to 359.90. Shares in Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) rose to all time highs; up 4.98% or 38.50 to 812.10. Shares in Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) rose to all time highs; up 3.02% or 82.50 to 2818.45. Shares in Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) rose to all time highs; up 3.19% or 87.40 to 2824.80. Shares in HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 2.65% or 21.95 to 849.70.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.60% to 20.3800.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.38% or 7.20 to $1898.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.33% or 0.53 to hit $40.48 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.55% or 0.65 to trade at $42.64 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.14% to 73.229, while EUR/INR fell 0.10% to 86.1540.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 93.645.
