Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, IT and Technology sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.72%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.63%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which rose 6.13% or 35.25 points to trade at 610.00 at the close. Meanwhile, HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) added 5.12% or 28.85 points to end at 592.20 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) was up 4.41% or 68.65 points to 1,624.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD), which fell 2.72% or 7.70 points to trade at 275.20 at the close. Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) declined 2.23% or 114.50 points to end at 5,010.00 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was down 1.59% or 24.50 points to 1,513.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which rose 4.43% to 1,624.00, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 4.05% to settle at 4,133.45 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which gained 3.84% to close at 10,825.90.
The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 2.97% to 274.35 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 1.84% to settle at 1,511.00 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 1.52% to 431.40 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1355 to 796 and 33 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2242 rose and 1477 declined, while 79 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.07% to 15.78.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.12% or 2.55 to $2,040.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.04% or 0.03 to hit $72.81 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.13% or 0.10 to trade at $78.09 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.02% to 83.06, while EUR/INR fell 0.09% to 89.14.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 104.39.
