Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Power, Technology and IT sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.71% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.84%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which rose 3.32% or 4.35 points to trade at 135.10 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) added 2.05% or 6.95 points to end at 346.70 and Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB) was up 2.34% or 3.55 points to 155.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which fell 2.22% or 453.75 points to trade at 19891.50 at the close. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) declined 2.57% or 10.90 points to end at 412.75 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) was down 2.13% or 7.95 points to 365.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 3.44% to 135.35, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 2.33% to settle at 346.60 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which gained 2.07% to close at 3481.00.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 2.39% to 412.75 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 1.61% to settle at 661.45 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 1.35% to 1586.10 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 827 to 749 and 75 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1275 fell and 1195 advanced, while 146 ended unchanged.
Shares in Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) rose to all time highs; rising 2.07% or 70.75 to 3481.00.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.86% to 15.6100 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.43% or 5.45 to $1275.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.17% or 0.10 to hit $58.91 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.59% or 0.40 to trade at $67.47 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.09% to 69.873, while EUR/INR rose 0.16% to 77.8460.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 98.045.
