India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.67%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Power, Oil & Gas and IT sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.67%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.69%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which rose 5.50% or 103.40 points to trade at 1,982.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) added 2.83% or 12.10 points to end at 440.10 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was up 2.56% or 3.95 points to 158.20 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT), which fell 2.09% or 92.10 points to trade at 4,319.85 at the close. Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) declined 1.26% or 1.35 points to end at 105.65 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) was down 1.18% or 8.05 points to 674.25.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 2.49% to 176.85, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 2.25% to settle at 227.05 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which gained 1.93% to close at 1,381.40.

The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 1.22% to 105.65 in late trade, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which lost 0.50% to settle at 2,140.60 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 0.46% to 1,121.15 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1160 to 757 and 91 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1994 rose and 1450 declined, while 199 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.72% to 12.27.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.12% or 2.25 to $1,856.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.48% or 1.18 to hit $78.50 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.51% or 1.30 to trade at $84.53 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.31% to 81.93, while EUR/INR rose 0.27% to 87.08.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 104.61.
