Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Public Sector Undertakings, Oil & Gas and Metals sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.65%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.54%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL), which rose 7.15% or 18.90 points to trade at 281.30 at the close. Meanwhile, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) added 4.89% or 7.70 points to end at 164.45 and AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) was up 3.01% or 15.70 points to 537.90 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL), which fell 3.61% or 63.25 points to trade at 1681.70 at the close. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) declined 1.11% or 7.30 points to end at 646.80 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) was down 1.40% or 4.85 points to 342.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which rose 2.98% to 259.25, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 2.97% to settle at 548.80 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 2.70% to close at 266.30.
The worst performers were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 4.00% to 1683.75 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 1.14% to settle at 342.25 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 0.94% to 1905.15 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 950 to 654 and 50 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1397 rose and 1091 declined, while 149 ended unchanged.
Shares in Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) fell to 52-week lows; falling 1.40% or 4.85 to 342.55. Shares in Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) fell to 52-week lows; down 1.14% or 3.95 to 342.25.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.95% to 12.8250.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.17% or 2.10 to $1241.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.18% or 0.12 to hit $67.19 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $71.86 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.08% to 68.433, while EUR/INR fell 0.11% to 80.1870.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 94.21.
