Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Auto, Healthcare and Banking sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.65%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.75%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA), which rose 4.42% or 126.40 points to trade at 2979.05 at the close. Meanwhile, Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN) added 3.86% or 34.90 points to end at 934.20 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) was up 2.78% or 249.80 points to 9220.80 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL), which fell 2.59% or 6.70 points to trade at 252.30 at the close. Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) declined 2.01% or 19.85 points to end at 965.45 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was down 1.98% or 12.65 points to 628.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which rose 3.95% to 2978.20, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was up 2.69% to settle at 9220.80 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which gained 2.09% to close at 1922.85.
The worst performers were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 1.64% to 152.50 in late trade, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which lost 1.21% to settle at 228.15 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 1.20% to 155.95 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 845 to 732 and 67 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1313 fell and 1222 advanced, while 122 ended unchanged.
Shares in Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL) fell to 52-week lows; down 2.59% or 6.70 to 252.30. Shares in Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) fell to 52-week lows; falling 2.01% or 19.85 to 965.45. Shares in NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) fell to 52-week lows; losing 1.64% or 2.55 to 152.50.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.63% to 12.6575.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.37% or 4.70 to $1258.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.55% or 0.41 to hit $73.73 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.15% or 0.12 to trade at $77.88 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.29% to 68.715, while EUR/INR rose 0.09% to 79.9844.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 94.41.
