Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Auto, IT and Oil & Gas sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.62%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.69%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Limited (NS:TEML), which rose 3.75% or 17.60 points to trade at 487.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Motors Ltd . (NS:TAMO) added 3.50% or 15.90 points to end at 470.30 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was up 2.87% or 17.55 points to 629.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC), which fell 2.81% or 97.45 points to trade at 3364.90 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) declined 2.58% or 4.70 points to end at 177.25 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) was down 2.38% or 10.75 points to 441.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which rose 3.48% to 470.35, Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (BO:APSE) which was up 2.35% to settle at 288.00 and Wipro Ltd. (BO:WIPR) which gained 1.86% to close at 462.65.
The worst performers were Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was down 1.34% to 423.00 in late trade, TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which lost 0.79% to settle at 420.65 and Lupin Ltd (BO:LUPN) which was down 0.71% to 1492.10 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 756 to 719 and 68 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1279 fell and 1256 advanced, while 185 ended unchanged.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.67% to 15.9225.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.52% or 6.05 to $1159.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.51% or 0.27 to hit $53.10 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.66% or 0.37 to trade at $56.06 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.19% to 67.555, while EUR/INR fell 0.06% to 71.6668.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.16% at 101.16.
