Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Capital Goods and Consumer Durables sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.62%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.64%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 2.88% or 14.05 points to trade at 501.95 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) added 2.47% or 2.95 points to end at 122.30 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) was up 2.35% or 51.95 points to 2,265.05 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which fell 1.55% or 6.45 points to trade at 408.85 at the close. Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL) declined 1.50% or 54.45 points to end at 3,584.90 and HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) was down 1.49% or 9.10 points to 600.35.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 2.72% to 122.60, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was up 2.41% to settle at 2,266.45 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which gained 1.78% to close at 403.20.
The worst performers were UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which was down 1.28% to 7,279.60 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 0.67% to settle at 1,222.00 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 0.53% to 19,820.00 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1020 to 873 and 73 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1848 rose and 1542 declined, while 132 ended unchanged.
Shares in Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) rose to all time highs; rising 2.35% or 51.95 to 2,265.05. Shares in Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) rose to all time highs; rising 2.41% or 53.30 to 2,266.45.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.49% to 14.37.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.31% or 5.90 to $1,915.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.90% or 1.53 to hit $81.98 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.54% or 1.32 to trade at $87.24 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.40% to 81.30, while EUR/INR rose 0.25% to 88.28.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.42% at 101.71.
