Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Public Sector Undertakings, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Oil & Gas sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.61% to hit a new 6-months high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.70%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI), which rose 2.80% or 8.90 points to trade at 327.60 at the close. Meanwhile, HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) added 2.84% or 28.75 points to end at 1036.20 and NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) was up 1.94% or 2.56 points to 134.90 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which fell 2.66% or 591.40 points to trade at 21759.10 at the close. Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) declined 2.04% or 54.50 points to end at 2614.05 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) was down 1.37% or 18.95 points to 1357.95.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 2.45% to 299.40, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was up 2.18% to settle at 1034.60 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which gained 2.16% to close at 135.10.

The worst performers were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which was down 2.10% to 2615.40 in late trade, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which lost 1.60% to settle at 1356.75 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 1.13% to 6832.55 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 806 to 799 and 68 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1340 rose and 1259 declined, while 160 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.41% to 16.4925.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.50% or 6.45 to $1307.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.67% or 0.40 to hit $59.78 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.87% or 0.59 to trade at $68.13 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.59% to 68.957, while EUR/INR rose 0.68% to 78.3190.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 95.792.
