Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Public Sector Undertakings, Metals and Capital Goods sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.59%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.42%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL), which rose 7.99% or 47.50 points to trade at 641.70 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharat Electronics Ltd (NS:BAJE) added 3.34% or 8.95 points to end at 276.80 and SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) was up 2.89% or 42.60 points to 1,515.35 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Trent Ltd (NS:TREN), which fell 2.57% or 164.20 points to trade at 6,226.05 at the close. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) declined 2.26% or 30.20 points to end at 1,307.00 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) was down 1.96% or 35.70 points to 1,790.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) which rose 2.23% to 1,154.05, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was up 1.86% to settle at 768.00 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which gained 1.80% to close at 1,274.90.
The worst performers were HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was down 1.83% to 1,792.50 in late trade, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which lost 1.48% to settle at 1,920.90 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 1.16% to 2,174.95 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1756 to 582 and 30 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2648 rose and 1151 declined, while 101 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.56% to 15.49.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.74% or 20.01 to $2,737.81 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.32% or 0.25 to hit $78.46 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.38% or 0.31 to trade at $81.72 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.23% to 86.58, while EUR/INR rose 0.25% to 89.12.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 108.93.
