Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Technology and IT sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.53% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.55%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA), which rose 3.04% or 254.05 points to trade at 8,605.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) added 2.56% or 44.00 points to end at 1,759.70 and Axis Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) was up 2.20% or 24.20 points to 1,125.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which fell 2.30% or 76.25 points to trade at 3,233.95 at the close. UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) declined 2.01% or 197.30 points to end at 9,641.05 and NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) was down 1.76% or 6.30 points to 351.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which rose 2.45% to 1,758.00, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 2.23% to settle at 1,194.75 and Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which gained 2.07% to close at 1,123.50.
The worst performers were UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which was down 1.91% to 9,651.55 in late trade, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which lost 1.74% to settle at 352.00 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 0.82% to 11,574.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1842 to 335 and 26 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2902 fell and 813 advanced, while 75 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.59% to 14.30 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.30% or 6.35 to $2,135.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.02% or 0.80 to hit $78.95 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.76% or 0.62 to trade at $82.66 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.04% to 82.86, while EUR/INR rose 0.13% to 90.13.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 103.56.
