Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Consumer Durables, Banking and Oil & Gas sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.53% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.59%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which rose 3.13% or 5.25 points to trade at 172.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) added 3.09% or 36.60 points to end at 1217.70 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) was up 2.28% or 62.60 points to 2813.15 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN), which fell 5.13% or 44.45 points to trade at 825.55 at the close. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) declined 2.14% or 201.50 points to end at 9207.40 and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL) was down 1.63% or 4.70 points to 282.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which rose 2.87% to 171.90, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was up 2.85% to settle at 1217.25 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 1.63% to close at 318.20.
The worst performers were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 1.99% to 9209.50 in late trade, Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which lost 0.96% to settle at 2658.00 and Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 0.90% to 224.75 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 841 to 748 and 65 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1392 fell and 1256 advanced, while 118 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.30% to 12.5400.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.05% or 0.60 to $1218.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.20% or 0.14 to hit $69.03 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.24% or 0.18 to trade at $74.47 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.04% to 68.635, while EUR/INR rose 0.05% to 79.6380.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 95.08.
