Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Public Sector Undertakings, IT and Technology sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.49% to hit a new 3-months high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.55%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which rose 6.32% or 7.95 points to trade at 133.60 at the close. Meanwhile, State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) added 3.47% or 9.75 points to end at 289.90 and Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) was up 3.55% or 25.35 points to 734.95 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI), which fell 5.25% or 10.15 points to trade at 183.20 at the close. Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB) declined 3.61% or 2.10 points to end at 56.80 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) was down 2.06% or 159.30 points to 7556.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which rose 3.37% to 289.95, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 2.63% to settle at 2253.65 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which gained 2.43% to close at 259.40.
The worst performers were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 2.41% to 56.80 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 2.13% to settle at 7554.20 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 1.49% to 1295.80 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 880 to 671 and 82 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1319 rose and 1073 declined, while 159 ended unchanged.
Shares in Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) fell to 5-year lows; falling 5.25% or 10.15 to 183.20.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.45% to 16.6575.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.24% or 3.55 to $1494.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $55.53 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.45% or 0.28 to trade at $61.31 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.01% to 70.885, while EUR/INR rose 0.13% to 78.8520.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 97.373.
