Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Metals, Banking and Oil & Gas sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.46% to hit a new 3-months high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.59%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which rose 5.16% or 7.80 points to trade at 159.00 at the close. Meanwhile, JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) added 3.94% or 9.65 points to end at 254.85 and AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) was up 3.92% or 16.90 points to 448.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Shree Cements Ltd. (NS:SHCM), which fell 3.87% or 866.40 points to trade at 21530.00 at the close. Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN) declined 3.57% or 39.55 points to end at 1068.00 and UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) was down 2.33% or 11.50 points to 482.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 3.96% to 448.00, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was up 2.48% to settle at 522.00 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which gained 2.39% to close at 203.65.
The worst performers were Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which was down 3.73% to 1066.50 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 1.13% to settle at 552.05 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was down 1.11% to 684.60 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 946 to 684 and 56 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1503 rose and 1088 declined, while 133 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.11% to 21.3600 a new 3-months low.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.66% or 33.65 to $1996.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.48% or 0.62 to hit $42.56 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.11% or 0.50 to trade at $45.49 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.29% to 74.654, while EUR/INR rose 0.23% to 88.0665.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.35% at 93.237.
