Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, IT and Banking sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.45% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.62%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which rose 10.12% or 32.90 points to trade at 352.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) added 1.98% or 28.95 points to end at 1491.25 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) was up 1.55% or 53.70 points to 3539.25 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI), which fell 2.50% or 8.15 points to trade at 316.10 at the close. Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN) declined 2.66% or 21.70 points to end at 792.70 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) was down 3.08% or 12.95 points to 409.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which rose 8.26% to 352.05, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was up 2.17% to settle at 1491.25 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which gained 2.09% to close at 3540.35.
The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 2.61% to 408.85 in late trade, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which lost 2.09% to settle at 2080.40 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was down 2.00% to 281.45 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 914 to 677 and 50 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1473 fell and 1079 advanced, while 147 ended unchanged.
Shares in Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) fell to 52-week lows; falling 2.50% or 8.15 to 316.10. Shares in Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) rose to all time highs; rising 1.98% or 28.95 to 1491.25. Shares in Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) rose to all time highs; up 1.55% or 53.70 to 3539.25. Shares in Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) rose to all time highs; rising 2.17% or 31.65 to 1491.25. Shares in Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) rose to all time highs; up 2.09% or 72.45 to 3540.35.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.88% to 12.0375.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.13% or 1.70 to $1324.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.38% or 0.26 to hit $68.31 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.61% or 0.45 to trade at $74.45 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.19% to 66.795, while EUR/INR fell 0.02% to 81.3640.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 90.95.
