Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Power and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.43%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.40%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which rose 5.08% or 8.65 points to trade at 177.85 at the close. Meanwhile, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) added 3.52% or 7.10 points to end at 209.65 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) was up 4.03% or 10.75 points to 277.15 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT), which fell 2.80% or 78.70 points to trade at 2732.90 at the close. Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) declined 1.74% or 10.80 points to end at 612.25 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was down 1.16% or 8.70 points to 739.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which rose 4.40% to 177.85, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 4.12% to settle at 209.85 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which gained 3.59% to close at 399.30.
The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 1.12% to 739.65 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 1.02% to settle at 1435.30 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 0.87% to 718.20 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 966 to 603 and 75 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1388 rose and 1011 declined, while 156 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.73% to 14.7500.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.56% or 7.90 to $1410.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.61% or 0.93 to hit $58.76 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.93% or 0.60 to trade at $64.88 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.17% to 69.193, while EUR/INR fell 0.20% to 78.6125.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 95.738.
