Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Public Sector Undertakings, Power and Consumer Durables sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.42% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.45%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which rose 2.86% or 5.35 points to trade at 192.70 at the close. Meanwhile, Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) added 2.22% or 164.70 points to end at 7,584.70 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was up 2.11% or 29.30 points to 1,419.55 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which fell 1.06% or 4.70 points to trade at 439.80 at the close. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) declined 0.77% or 26.80 points to end at 3,470.05 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) was down 0.76% or 36.95 points to 4,823.65.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 2.86% to 192.55, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was up 2.20% to settle at 7,582.25 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which gained 2.07% to close at 1,419.10.
The worst performers were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 0.82% to 3,471.00 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 0.68% to settle at 869.80 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 0.61% to 9,610.00 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1118 to 804 and 61 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1905 rose and 1380 declined, while 122 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.94% to 11.60.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.11% or 2.15 to $1,978.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.28% or 0.21 to hit $75.87 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.45% or 0.36 to trade at $79.99 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.06% to 82.13, while EUR/INR fell 0.02% to 92.14.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.30% at 99.92.
