Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Metals, IT and Technology sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.39% to hit a new 6-months high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.51%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which rose 7.49% or 13.05 points to trade at 187.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) added 5.28% or 10.85 points to end at 215.90 and Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN) was up 3.61% or 26.70 points to 766.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which fell 3.28% or 14.60 points to trade at 431.70 at the close. UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) declined 2.80% or 26.85 points to end at 934.30 and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) was down 2.55% or 4.15 points to 158.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which rose 7.75% to 92.45, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was up 7.37% to settle at 187.15 and Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which gained 2.86% to close at 189.00.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 2.22% to 1742.55 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 1.66% to settle at 660.65 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 1.42% to 765.10 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1146 to 465 and 56 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1634 rose and 887 declined, while 142 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.77% to 18.0050 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.32% or 4.15 to $1294.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.67% or 0.40 to hit $60.54 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.12% or 0.76 to trade at $68.34 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.26% to 69.263, while EUR/INR rose 0.35% to 77.8955.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 96.678.
