Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Capital Goods and Metals sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.32%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.21%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which rose 3.59% or 9.13 points to trade at 263.49 at the close. Meanwhile, SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) added 3.00% or 43.10 points to end at 1,477.75 and HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) was up 2.29% or 13.90 points to 619.85 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT), which fell 1.90% or 37.15 points to trade at 1,915.90 at the close. Trent Ltd (NS:TREN) declined 1.77% or 124.05 points to end at 6,874.30 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) was down 1.63% or 66.70 points to 4,028.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which rose 2.17% to 792.75, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was up 1.83% to settle at 1,240.45 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 1.24% to close at 1,280.00.
The worst performers were HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was down 1.73% to 1,918.60 in late trade, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which lost 1.53% to settle at 4,032.00 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 0.93% to 1,670.00 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1687 to 542 and 151 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2488 rose and 1304 declined, while 100 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 6.31% to 14.66.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.28% or 7.54 to $2,654.94 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.15% or 0.11 to hit $73.67 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.35% or 0.27 to trade at $76.57 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.01% to 85.74, while EUR/INR rose 0.34% to 89.36.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 107.82.
