Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Public Sector Undertakings, Power and Banking sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.32% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.34%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were State Bank Of India (NS:SBI), which rose 6.40% or 17.40 points to trade at 287.70 at the close. Meanwhile, ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) added 3.51% or 9.65 points to end at 285.65 and Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) was up 3.62% or 35.70 points to 1024.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI), which fell 3.78% or 368.95 points to trade at 9396.25 at the close. Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB) declined 4.03% or 15.45 points to end at 369.75 and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) was down 2.21% or 3.60 points to 158.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which rose 5.62% to 286.70, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was up 4.08% to settle at 285.80 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which gained 4.04% to close at 182.75.
The worst performers were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 3.70% to 9396.65 in late trade, Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which lost 3.61% to settle at 369.60 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 1.08% to 1434.65 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 818 to 772 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1295 rose and 1190 declined, while 135 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.47% to 12.0275 a new 3-months low.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.29% or 3.60 to $1228.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.12% or 0.08 to hit $69.22 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.47% or 0.35 to trade at $74.28 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.09% to 68.665, while EUR/INR fell 0.21% to 80.4415.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 94.08.
